Three years ago, a wonderful volunteer named Eugenia met me and instantly fell in love with me. Back then, life was pretty wonderful. I shared my home with my two best friends, Kevin and Dodo. Kevin was my partner in crime, and Dodo, our brave three-legged friend, always joined our adventures. We spent our days chasing each other, playing games, greeting visitors, and making everyone laugh. I was confident, cheeky, and always the first to start the fun. Then life slowly began to change. Kevin and I were moved to another shelter area. We still had each other, so I didn’t mind too much. As long as my best friend was by my side, everything felt safe. But then Kevin found his forever home. I was so happy for him… but when he left, I suddenly felt very alone. I had to move once again, this time to a new compound without my best friend. Somewhere along the way, I lost more than Kevin. I lost my confidence. These days, I spend a lot more time quietly watching the world. I don’t run around starting games anymore. Most days I eat, sleep, and wait. Sometimes I wonder if someone will ever come for me the way they came for Kevin. But the old Katya is still here. The volunteers see her every time they take me for a walk. Once I’m with someone I know and trust, my tail starts wagging, my playful side comes back, and for a little while I’m the happy, mischievous girl I used to be. They always tell people, “This is the real Katya.” I know I’m not the kind of dog who will jump into a stranger’s arms on the first day. I need a little time. I need someone who understands that trust is something we build together. If you can give me that chance, I promise I’ll give you my whole heart. I’m a small, tidy girl with a gentle soul and so much love still waiting to be shared. I don’t need a perfect home. I just need someone who believes that shy dogs deserve happy endings too. Maybe you could become my new Kevin. Or maybe… you could become something even better. My forever family.
